| | | lizzy | Feb 19, 8:56am | Original copies..what are we discussing here?
what is our purpose?
are we in competition of who is the most knowledgable about interpretation of the bible? or is our aim to share the message of the Bibles author Jehova the almighty God whos name apeard 7000 times in the original scriptures.
Blasphemy..is not any word spoken against the Bible or God..it comes from the word Fame..to blaspheme is to exalt ones self or someone els above God.
This is very significant of the true message of God and Jesus- which means son of God, as does Emmanuel.
If the way someone wanted to live their life did not correspond directly with the bible..one would have wanted to interpret the meaning differently.
Given the power and the means this is what they did throughout history..
however their attempts will never ultimately be successful.
Some exsamles are Eliakim son of Josiah son of Zebidah daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.
Who changed his name to Jehoiakim upon his kinship of Judah.
2 Kings 23:34-37
PharŽaoh NeŽchoh made E·liŽa·kim the son of Jo·siŽah king in place of Jo·siŽah his father and changed his name to Je·hoiŽa·kim; and Je·hoŽa·haz he took and then brought to Egypt, where he eventually died.
35 And the silver and the gold Je·hoiŽa·kim gave to PharŽaoh. Only he taxed the land, to give the silver at the order of PharŽaoh. According to each one's individual tax rate he exacted the silver and the gold from the people of the land, to give it to PharŽaoh NeŽchoh.
36 Twenty-five years old was Je·hoiŽa·kim when he began to reign, and for eleven years he reigned in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Ze·biŽdah the daughter of Pe·daiŽah from RuŽmah.
37 And he continued to do what was bad in Jehovah's eyes, according to all that forefathers of his had done.
2 Kings 24:7
And never again did the king of Egypt come out from his land, for the king of Babylon had taken all that happened to belong to the king of Egypt from the torrent valley of Egypt up to the river Eu·phraŽtes.
Jeremiah 22:6-9
6 "For this is what Jehovah has said concerning the house of the king of Judah, `You are as GilŽe·ad to me, the head of LebŽa·non. Assuredly I shall make you a wilderness; as for the cities, not one will be inhabited.
7 And I will sanctify against you those bringing ruin, each one and his weapons; and they must cut down the choicest of your cedars and cause them to fall into the fire.
8 And many nations will actually pass along by this city and say one to the other: "On what account did Jehovah do like this to this great city?"
9 And they will have to say: "On account of the fact that they left the covenant of Jehovah their God and proceeded to bow down to other gods and to serve them."'
10 "Do not weep for the dead one, and do not sympathize with him, YOU people. Weep profusely for the one going away, for he will return no more and he will actually not see the land of his relatives.
11 For this is what Jehovah has said concerning ShalŽlum the son of Jo·siŽah, the king of Judah who is reigning instead of Jo·siŽah his father, who has gone forth from this place, `He will return there no more.
12 For in the place where they have taken him into exile he will die, and this land he will see no more.'
Jeremiah 36:14-26
14 Then all the princes sent out to BarŽuch Je·huŽdi the son of Neth·a·niŽah the son of Shel·e·miŽah the son of CushŽi, saying: "The roll from which you read aloud in the ears of the people--take it in your hand and come." Accordingly BarŽuch the son of Ne·riŽah took the roll in his hand and came in to them.
15 Then they said to him: "Sit down, please, and read it aloud in our ears." So BarŽuch read aloud in their ears.
16 Now it came about that as soon as they heard all the words, they looked at one another in dread; and they proceeded to say to BarŽuch: "We shall without fail tell the king all these words."
17 And BarŽuch they asked, saying: "Tell us, please, How did you write all these words from his mouth?"
18 Then BarŽuch said to them: "Out of his mouth he kept declaring to me all these words, and I was writing in the book with ink."
19 Finally the princes said to BarŽuch: "Go, conceal yourself, you and Jeremiah, so that no one at all will know where YOU men are."
20 Then they came in to the king, to the courtyard, and the roll they entrusted to the dining room of E·lishŽa·ma the secretary; and they began to tell all the words in the ears of the king.
21 So the king sent Je·huŽdi out to get the roll. Accordingly he got it out of the dining room of E·lishŽa·ma the secretary. And Je·huŽdi began to read it aloud in the ears of the king and in the ears of all the princes standing by the king.
22 And the king was sitting in the winter house, in the ninth month, with a brazier burning before him.
23 Then it came about that as soon as Je·huŽdi had read three or four page-columns, he proceeded to tear it apart with the secretary's knife, pitching [it] also into the fire that was in the brazier until all the roll ended up in the fire that was in the brazier.
24 And they felt no dread; neither did the king and all his servants, who were listening to all these words, rip their garments apart.
25 And even El·naŽthan and De·laŽiah and Gem·a·riŽah themselves pleaded with the king not to burn the roll, but he did not listen to them.
26 Further, the king commanded Je·rahŽme·el the son of the king and Se·raiŽah the son of AzŽri·el and Shel·e·miŽah the son of AbŽde·el to get BarŽuch the secretary and Jeremiah the prophet. But Jehovah kept them concealed.
Jeremiah 46:1-2
1 This is what occurred as the word of Jehovah to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations:
2 For Egypt, concerning the military force of PharŽaoh NeŽcho the king of Egypt, who happened to be by the river Eu·phraŽtes at CarŽche·mish, whom Neb·u·chad·rezŽzar the king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Je·hoiŽa·kim the son of Jo·siŽah, the king of Judah
Eliakim/Jehoiakim/Jehoahaz- son of Josiah last riegning king of Judah tried to deny the prophecy by burning the scriptures and trying to murder Jeremiah because the truth was a threat to his kingship but was not successfull.
By the same rulership Daniel was also unauthorized in the temple because of his lack of title..he was later accused of interpreting the dreams of a pegan king and his book was removed from some hebrew scriptures.
How significant is Daniel? why would they want his word removed?
to this day some historians declair that the prophecies of Daniel which have come to light were writen much later than his time because they dont want it to be the truth. |

| Sponsor | Ewtn2000 | Mar 27, 7:48am | You made the claim that the JW have a more accurate translation of the Bible due to the fact that "Most bibles are translated from the Septuagint which is semetic hebrew to greek, i respect that JWs have translated from the original to English and other languages this makes a huge difference in many areas eg in the old testiment." My response to you was that most of the originals do not exist, so how then did the JW get full copies of them to do the translation. A minor point, but one that must be discussed to validate your claim that the JW's translation is the best. Which I disagree.
Case in Point. You say Emmanuel means "Son of God". Emmanuel - Immanuel means "God with us". Another big point. |

| Jossey | Apr 2, 5:42pm | Yes we went there, many `origanal copies` do exsist how do you think the Torah was made? some ancient copies were found translated from hebrew in Russia, i think its the most earnest translation given all the evidence we have.
Yes Emmanuel does mean God is with us is what i meant to say.
amounst us is the spirit of God..i think the differences in language and culture strengthens the authenticity of the Bible because so often do the prophits say the same thing in different place and time. |

| juliamajor | Apr 7, 10:18pm | | Okay- what the heck does all the blather have to do with "study bibles"? I'd have to say My Oxford Study Bible- the ole RSV good solid translation- good solid notes- the Ecumenical Deutercanonical one. Adjuncts-a good Bible atlas-I've got several-Holman has a good one-Rand Mcnally has a very reasonably priced one-the New Jerome Commentary-Holman's charts and maps-for great insights into the Hebrew Scripture-The "jewish study Bible""rReading the New Testament by Pheme Perkins-"understanding the Old Testament" by Lawrence Boadt and anything by Fitzmeyer, Brown, Heschel or Sarna. |

| Sponsor | Ewtn2000 | Apr 22, 8:52am | Again, full copies of the original texts exist? I would beg to differ. They did exist when other copies where made, but to say that the still exist today is not entirely correct. Copies exist, not the originals. At least not entire books.
Emmaunuel does not mean "Spirit of God is with us" It means "God is with us". |
